How to Join our Troop

Each Spring, Troop 13 welcomes any boy into the Troop. A boy must be the age of 11 and/or be in the 5th grade. Cub Scouts is not a pre-requisite for joining, although we recommend that all young boys join Cub Scouts as it is an excellent start to a life-long path in Scouting. Webelo Scouts who have completed the Arrow of Light may join when they are 10 and a half.

Troop 13 requires all boys interested in joining to visit the Troop meeting at least two times.  If, after two visits, a boy decides to join Troop 13, the boy and at least one parent will receive a document outlining the fundamentals of the Troop.  This document will provide the necessary information to make a final decision about joining, plus, it will outline the expectations of the boy and the parent throughout the process.  At Troop 13, Scouting is an adventure full of learning and achievement, but it only happens if the family is onboard with the plan.

Once reviewed, this document must be signed and returned to the Scoutmaster.  By agreeing to the process, a young boy accepts that his experience in the Troop is based on service to others and a willingness to abide by the rules set forth by the Troop Committee.  These rules follow the Scout Oath and Law very closely, but also deal with behavioral guidelines that the Troop expects all Scouts and Adults to comply with.

After completing this step, a young boy may join the Troop at a Troop meeting, which is the first Tuesday of the month.  These "Troop Joining Meetings" are a special time for a young boy as he is recognized and placed into a New Scout Patrol.
