Troop 13 Operating Guidelines

1. Structure
  • We will establish and maintain a clear leadership structure using the Patrol Method from Senior Patrol Leader to new scout

2. Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Involvement
  • The Scoutmaster is responsible for training.

  • Only trained Scoutmasters may be directly involved in scout leadership training, troop meetings, and camping programs.

  • The Scoutmaster selects and trains all Assistant Scoutmasters, and has the authority to remove an adult leader from direct involvement with the boys.

3. Non-Scoutmaster Involvement
  • Adults must not do anything that the Scouts can do themselves.

  • Involvement is from the sidelines, not through interaction with Scouts.

  • Adults should not interfere with the functioning of boy leaders, even if they make mistakes.

  • We will leverage parent professional backgrounds, skills and strengths.

4. Commitment
  • A High level of commitment from Scouts is expected.

  • Scouts are accountable for the success of their Scouting careers.

  • Scouts are expected to attend troop meetings and campouts.

5. Advancement
  • Advancement is the by-product of character development through full participation in the Scouting programs.

  • Advancement to the rank of Eagle is a difficult and challenging endeavor, reflective of extraordinary effort and character development.

6. Programs
  • Our programs will be exciting and engaging to scouts of all ages.

  • Our programs are of the highest quality and innovativeness.
